We watched you as you set sail
destined for another land.
But you disappeared into the sea
swept away by its might.

The ocean paid your bail.
Freely, you sank towards the dark sand.
Into a world unknown to you and me.
Where no longer you fight.

In the quiet darkness you now lie
finally at rest.
Your battle complete.
The war lost.

Before you breathed your last sigh
you gave this fight your best.
Crossing the ocean is a fearsome feat.
Even moreso the cost.

Too often under its waves people will be.
Forever lost.
Their struggle no more.
Leaving us to wonder if they ever found peace.

Curse the alluring sea
that tempts us all to cross
for the chance we may find that shore
where we can forever be in peace.

Too soon we say goodbye.
Never to greet you on that beach.
For you were given a different peace.
Deep under the raging sea.
